Right now, there is a pain deeply etched in the soul of our nation and in the hearts of millions. This senseless killing of George Floyd, like so many others provokes not only the outrage played on our screens but also hurt and fear. This blog was created to keep us connected during a pandemic. That is still the goal. You will not find the answers here but hopefully a breath, calm, strength, understanding. The voices below are here to remind us that by standing up for one another, we stand together.
In light of current events the following quotes seems to define it best.
In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. “Every society has its protectors of status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. Today, our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. With every breath we take, we must commit to being that change, and to creating a better, more just world for everyone”.
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the one we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”. Barack Obama
“Hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the task ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. Hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us if we have the courage to reach for it, and to work for it, and to fight for it. Hope is the belief that destiny will not be written for us, but by us, by the men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is, who have the courage to remake the world as it should be”. Barack Obama
“The richer we have become materially, the poorer we become morally and spiritually. We have learned to fly in the air like birds and swim in the sea like fish, but we have not learned the simple art of living together as brothers”. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Peace does not mean an absence of conflicts; differences will always be there. Peace means solving these differences through peaceful means; through dialogue deduction, knowledge; and through humane ways”. Dalai Lama
