Reopening and a New Beginning
For many of us, a reality beyond Corona, seemed like it would never arrive.  Our world has now reopened, and the time of isolation is finally over. The word virus is still real among us, as are masks, and social distancing, but the way to our new beginning is opening.
Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs are pulsating with activity and vitality that is infectious to everyone on the streets.    All food service establishments are waiting by their doors displaying menus of drinks and tasty edibles to temp passersby. Local restaurants, eateries, bakeries, and food shops are permitted to spill out onto the sidewalks and even some parking spaces.  Social distancing still reins but eating and sipping beverages with friend’s curbside is a joy much long awaited.  Everywhere on the streets around you there are smiles of happy diners munching on delights they did not have to make or haul home!
Barbers, beauty & nail salons have thrown wide their doors as well.  Lines of shaggy self-isolators, smile happily waiting to have their hair shorn, dyed, or highlighted. While others are eager for the long awaited mani-pedi!
So…get out there!

As the world moves toward more daily freedoms so too does technology more forward…
Tech & Big Data
There are many technologies that will emerge in the coming decades that will profoundly influence our daily lives.   Among them are a few technologies of special mention, that will have the greatest potential in our future.  They are developing rapidly and will influence the world for decades to come.

Faced with huge amounts of data, we must create new ways to navigate and process it. Big Data is in fact the ability to process huge volumes of information with higher speeds and more and more standard computing means. These volumes of information or data are of enormous interest to many sectors such as tourism, commerce, banking, advertising, genetics, astronomy, and human resources. Big data can be considered the new BLACK GOLD of the digital age.

To manage Big Data, it is necessary to collect, process, analyze, and take relevant actions following the analysis of this data.   Usually NoSQL databases, are used to process Big Data.

Big Data is characterized by the 5Vs:
1-Volume:  the mass of information produced every second. Since 2015, 98% of the data is digital and the rest is analog. This data is produced by personal computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
Most data are collected by two companies: Google with Gmail, the Google search engine, Android and YouTube.
Every minute we produce:  216000 photos on Instagram, 270000 tweets, 30 billion instant messages, and
million emails!
Facebook with Instagram and WhatsApp, two companies that accumulate data in order to process it to retaining users, maximizing the amount of data to monetize it with their advertisers.
2) Velocity-the speed of development and deployment of new data.
3) Variety- different types of data such as images, videos, texts, voices, and others.
4) Veracity-represents credibility and reliability of the data collected. Not all content is authentic.
5) Value--the profit from the use of Big Data. Such as Uber and Netflix who select only the Right from large masses of data.

Uber developed mobile applications to connect users and drivers. The collect massive amounts of data from their mobile application used by their drivers and customers, but it does not just collect its data, it collects mostly relevant data that allows it to connect customers that allowed Uber to make the taxis obsolete.

During the World Paris Motor Show, the trend of electric vehicles progressed well. Some manufacturers introduced semi-autonomous vehicles, which confirm the trend of autonomous driving. Connectivity technology already exists, touch screens with smartphones and tablets.
The 3D Printer:   can be used in many fields of applications such as industry robotics, jewelry, medicine, food, fashion, armament, DIY, architecture, design, health, aeronautics and marketing. There is even a 3D Nano printer, such as Nanoscribe, which prints on a scale of a few microns.  Based on a CAD model of a spacecraft, the 3D Nano printer, Nanoscribe, prints using lasers and rotating mirrors to direct the beams in order to create a multi-layer structure by polymerization.
The use of 3D printers allows the ability to print all forms of objects. In the aerospace and automotive industry, this 3D printer technology makes it possible to build parts cheaply and save production cost. Cars can even be printed, this is the case of the company Divergent Micro factories who designed a sports car in 3D printing, which is the Balde.
3D printing is a technological revolution because it revolutionizes the industrial production mode and invents new products that will build the world of tomorrow.  Did you know that their is a 3D printer on the Space Station.

In an effort to better get to know our fellow employees:
The Intercruises blog would like to invite all staff to share a small paragraph about yourself with your fellow team members.  This small personal section will be added to the blog, for any individual who would like to post or share a short note about yourself, other occupations, businesses, and interest.
What you might not know about:   Grace Barry
Grace began her career as an operator for the New York Telephone company and became one of the youngest supervisors there.  Her photo was later used in a recruitment poster.  After completing a course Grace was made group manager and was later selected to join the Employee Assistance Program.  Grace assisted employees with work and personal problems in the Bronx.  She became a personal adviser and participated in Job fairs, traveling, recruiting, testing, and hiring, all over the US.  Grace retired from Verizon after 39 years.
She volunteered for Big Brother/Big Sister mentoring Junior students and was on the board of Directors for the Education Achievement Foundation, scholarship of High School seniors, and was a member of Toastmaster International.
