Hey, it’s Summer, so get out there!
July is finally here, the weather is heating up, and summer is calling.
Time to eat great food, visit friends, and enjoy being outside, safely of course! Your choices of where to go are as varied as your options of enjoyment when you arrive! This year more than ever seems to focus on your personal preferred mode of transit and being outdoors! Whether you opt to bike, scooter, skateboard, or just ride along, the selection, and available options have increased exponentially. The most popular brands of bikes, skates, scooters, or boards are as vast as are the additional options of manual, assisted, or motorized. If this seems a little dizzying, we have added some options and info below on some of the most popular modes of personal transit coming to a neighborhood near you.
No matter how you get out there, or remain local, eat good food, bike, scooter, ride or walk, in the New York Metro area. It’s great exercise to visit a park or path you never explored before. Plan a date, daytrip, picnic, or a short get away. Have fun and stay safe!
Get ready for electric vehicles, and self-driving cars, just the start of changes coming to transportation. Futuristic technologies are merging with raised expectations, for greater sustainability, service not tied to ownership, and more sharing tied to economy. Future urban mobility will be more integrated, user-friendly, and stress-free for greater enjoyment.
Citi Bike is now a mainstay in our area and soon coming Dockless bicycle sharing will arrive.
Twelve new offerings are on the way… ranging from little-known regional operators to global players in the surging dockless bike sector. The station-based Citi Bike model, that takes up parking space, is far more time consuming and expensive to install than a dockless system, that lets users park bikes pretty much anywhere.
Some of the new names, arriving soon on your corner sidewalk might be, Chinese Ofo, Mobike, West Coast based LimeBike, and Spin with lesser known names such as MetroBike, Pace, LennyBike and QuimoCycle.
NYC Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said, “City Bike has been such an incredible success story in getting New Yorkers on bicycles, Transportation that is affordable, safe, sustainable and fun. The new dock less bikes will allow us to move beyond Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, and neighborhoods that Citi Bike now covers well”. Just remember to sharpen your eyes, as you cross the street and sidestep people whizzing by
With people still being urged to keep your distance, public transit systems operating on limited schedules, having an e-bike or electric scooter might make sense for essential short-distance travel -- it's an easy way to drop needed goods off with vulnerable family and friends as safely and quickly as possible. Or perhaps you want to cover longer distances faster than walking or maybe you have been looking for ways to reduce your carbon footprint -- all good reasons to consider a rideable.
Scooters behaving nicely E-scooters are coming to your city and cops will be patrolling on them.
Elizabeth Police Department officers will police the city's new e-scooter program by patrolling on the same green scooters rented by members of the public for $1 a ride plus a mileage charge.
“Whether you are using these scooters to travel to your destination or just navigating to lunch,” Mayor J. Christian Bollwage said in a statement, “these micro-mobility devices can help fill in the gaps between public transportation for hundreds of commuters each day, resulting in reduced traffic congestion, parking issues and more.” Gov. Cuomo said, the vehicles are essential to those working in the delivery industry and can provide a cleaner method of transportation for those trying to navigate congested city streets. Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation paving the way for their widespread use throughout NJ. New transportation technologies like e-bikes and e-scooters pose exciting potential as a sustainable alternative to vehicles.
The most fascinating feature that is being tested now is technology that will allow scooters to slowly drive themselves to pick up spots and charging stations; something employees or contractors currently do manually for scooter companies, including Bird, Lime, Lyft and others. Whether you will purchase an E-scooter or simply rent one as needed, prices can vary from inexpensive models that go short distances on a charge to some costing in the thousands of dollars, and can reach speeds of up to 40 mph, and do not need a charge for miles at a time. If you already own an E-scooter let us know your thoughts on them?
